On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania suspended attorney Todd Andrew Goodman from the practice of law for one year and one day. Goodman pled guilty in December 2023 in federal court to knowingly dispensing a controlled substance without a valid prescription.

The case is entitled “Office of Disciplinary Counsel v. Todd Andrew Goodman,” with case no. 14 DB 2024.

According to a Joint Petition filed with the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court on July 12, 2024, Goodman worked as a part-time pharmacist for over 20 years at Verree Pharmacy in Philadelphia. Starting around 2018, Goodman and another employee filled altered prescriptions for large quantities of oxycodone without taking steps to verify the prescriptions were valid.

For example, on May 26, 2018, Goodman knowingly distributed and dispensed approximately 240 tablets of 30 mg oxycodone to a customer based on a forged prescription, receiving $820 in cash. Oxycodone is a Schedule II opioid. The Joint Petition states Goodman’s actions violated professional ethics rules that prohibit criminal acts reflecting on honesty and trustworthiness as an attorney.

As part of his federal case, Goodman was sentenced in December 2023 to four months in prison and one year of supervised release. In the Joint Petition with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel, Goodman admitted to the misconduct and consented to a suspension of one year and one day, with the period retroactive to his temporary suspension by the Supreme Court on April 24, 2024. The petition noted several mitigating factors, including Goodman’s cooperation and remorse.

The Disciplinary Board reviewed the petition and recommended the Court accept the discipline. In its October 16, 2024 order, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania adopted the board’s recommendation, officially suspending Goodman from law practice.

The Disposition states:

“AND NOW, this 16th day of October 2024, upon consideration of the Recommendation of the Three-Member Panel of the Disciplinary Board, the Joint Petition in Support of Discipline on Consent is granted, and Todd Andrew Goodman is suspended on consent from the Bar of this Commonwealth for a period of one year and one day, retroactive to April 24, 2024.”

According to avvo.com, Mr. Goodman is a litigation attorney in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He acquired his law license in Pennsylvania in 1989.
