On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Director of the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility filed a petition in the Minnesota Supreme Court to transfer Astrid Lockwood to disability inactive status.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Astrid Lockwood.”
Lockwood has been a licensed attorney in Minnesota since 2007 but is currently suspended for failing to comply with continuing legal education requirements. The Director initiated an investigation into reciprocal discipline against Lockwood after she was disciplined by the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board in September 2023 for misconduct related to her practice of federal immigration law in Virginia using her Minnesota law license.
During the investigation, Lockwood asserted that she was unable to assist in her defense due to mental health issues. She provided medical information to the Director confirming impairments from various diagnosed mental health conditions that require treatment. Lockwood disclosed she is unable to represent clients or participate in disciplinary proceedings and defense at this time due to her illnesses.
The petition states:
“WHEREFORE, the Director respectfully prays for an order of this Court transferring respondent to disability inactive status, and for such other, further or different relief as may be just and proper.”
According to avvo.com, Ms. Lockwood attended the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, graduating in 2007. She acquired her law license in the same year.
