On Tuesday, January 17, 2023, the Supreme Court of Illinois denied the Petition by the respondent for leave to file exceptions to the Report and Recommendation of the Review Board filed by Chicago attorney Neija K. Lane. The Court also suspends the respondent from the practice for a period of 9 months.

The case is entitled “In the matter of Neija K. Lane’s” with case no. 031402.

On January 12, 2022, the United District Court for the Northern District of Illinois already issued an Order that suspended attorney Lane for six months. The review Board, in agreement with the Hearing Board’s findings, affirmed the latter’s recommendation of sanction.

The Board in Michigan then, in connection to this Order, issued their version for an Imposition of Reciprocal Discipline. However, the Attorney Disciplinary Board stated that there was no basis for the Reciprocal Discipline proceeding against the respondent. Thus, dismissing the Notice of Filing.

After being suspended by the State of Illinois, the respondent filed a Petition for leave to file exceptions to the Report and Recommendation of the Review Board. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court of Illinois decided to deny the Petition and suspend the respondent with the suspension stayed after six (6) months by a six (6) month period of probation.
