On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, the Supreme Court of Tennessee ordered the reinstatement of attorney Gary Neil Patton to the active practice of law following the end of his active suspension.

The case is entitled “In re: Gary Neil Patton,” case no. M2023-00610-SC -BAR-BP.

Patton was suspended by the Court on May 22, 2023, pursuant to the Hearing Panel’s Order Recommending Approval of Gary Neil Patton’s Guilty plea in response to a disciplinary complaint alleging unprofessional conduct. The suspension stemmed from allegations of Patton’s multiple violations of the Rules of Professional Conduct, including failure to communicate effectively with his client, charging a fee without proper approval, not keeping the fee in a trust account, obtaining a liability release without advising the client to seek independent counsel, and engaging in unprofessional conduct through inappropriate conversations with the client.

The Court suspended Patton for one year with 30 days served as an active suspension, and the remainder served on probation.

On June 30, 2023, Patton filed a petition for reinstatement, which was deemed satisfactory by the Board of Professional Responsibility.

Based on the foregoing facts and discussion, the Court ruled in favor of Patton’s reinstatement.

Mr. Gary Neil Patton earned a law degree from the University of Memphis – Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. He practices in Murfreesboro and he has been admitted to practice in the State of Tennessee in 1975. His info can be found on the Board of Professional Responsibility page.
