On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the Supreme Court of Illinois suspended Attorney Garrett Charles Kerr from practicing law for one year, following a recommendation from the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC).
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Garrett Charles Kerr,” with case no. M.R.032575.
The disciplinary action stems from a complaint filed against Kerr on July 23, 2024, accusing him of misrepresenting his admission status to the Michigan Bar while employed at LeFevre & LeFevre, PLLC, in Saginaw, Michigan. According to the ARDC, Kerr falsely claimed he had applied for admission to practice law in Michigan and misrepresented delays in his application process. In reality, he did not apply until late July 2021. Additionally, Kerr allegedly presented himself to clients as an attorney authorized to practice in Michigan, despite lacking such authorization.
Kerr’s misconduct extended to Illinois, where he failed to register to practice law in 2021, resulting in his removal from the state’s master roll of authorized attorneys. His failure to respond to the ARDC complaint or participate in disciplinary proceedings, including a pre-hearing conference on October 30, 2024, led to the allegations being deemed admitted. The Hearing Board determined that Kerr’s actions violated Rule 8.4(c) of the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct, involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation, and Rule 5.5(a), on the unauthorized practice of law.
The ARDC Hearing Board, in a report issued on January 10, 2025, recommended a one-year suspension, citing the severity of Kerr’s misconduct and his lack of engagement in the disciplinary process as aggravating factors.
The Disposition states:
“Motion by the Administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission to approve and confirm the report and recommendation of the Hearing Board. Respondent Garrett Charles Kerr is suspended from the practice of law for one (1) year and until further order of the Court.”
According to Avvo.com, Mr. Kerr is a consumer protection attorney in Frankenmuth, Michigan. He acquired his law license in Illinois in 2009.
