On Thursday, August 18, 2022, the Supreme Court of Louisiana ruled on the Petition for Interim Suspension relating to charges for attorney discipline against New Orleans attorney Karen Ruth Carter Peterson.
The case, titled In Re: Karen Ruth Carter Peterson, was brought by the Office of the Disciplinary Counsel of Louisiana. Case #2022-B-01185.
The ruling suspended Peterson from the practice of law on an interim basis.
The Court, in its Order, decreed:
“IT IS ORDERED that Karen Ruth Carter Peterson, Louisiana Bar Roll number 23446, be and she hereby is suspended from the practice of law on an interim basis pursuant to Supreme Court Rule XIX, § 19, pending further orders of this court. Pursuant to Supreme Court Rule XIX, § 26(E), this order is effective immediately.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that necessary disciplinary proceedings be instituted in accordance with Supreme Court Rule XIX, §§ 11 and 19.”
According to Wikipedia, she was a state senator from the 5th district of the State of Louisiana from March 9, 2010 until his resignation on April 9, 2022 and earned her Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School, graduating in 1995.
