On October 26, 2023, the Tennessee Supreme Court reinstated Attorney Richard Hannah Dunavant to the practice of law. Dunavant’s license was previously placed on disability inactive status on January 21, 2016, but he filed a Petition for Transfer to Active Status on September 28, 2023, indicating that the disability issue has been resolved.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Richard Hannah Dunavant”

In 2016, the Supreme Court of Tennessee ordered the transfer of Dunavant, to disability inactive status. This decision comes in response to a petition filed by the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility. The Court reached this conclusion after careful consideration of medical documentation from Mr. Dunavant’s healthcare provider, which indicated that he was incapacitated and unable to continue practicing law.

On September 28, 2023, Dunavant submitted a Request for Reinstatement to Active Status, providing evidence that his disability has been resolved. Following the Tennessee Supreme Court’s decision, Dunavant is now granted immediate authorization to resume the active practice of law in the state of Tennessee.

According to Lawyer.com, Mr. Dunavant practices in Pulaski, Tennessee. He graduated from Samford University in 1977 and acquired his law license in Tennessee the same year.
