On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board issued a six-month suspension with terms against attorney Alisa Lachow Correa.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Alisa Lachow Correa,” with case no. 24-051-129914.

According to the order, the Board accepted the Agreed Disposition put forth by Correa and the Virginia State Bar.

The Agreed Disposition outlined Correa’s misconduct involving her client Noberto Rosales Argueta. Correa was charged with a lack of competence, diligence, and proper communication with her client regarding his case. Specifically, Correa failed to timely file key documents ahead of an October 6, 2022 hearing, did not inform Argueta of an adverse ruling from the court on October 28, 2022, and missed the November 28, 2022 deadline to appeal the ruling.

When Argueta’s appeal was dismissed on June 15, 2023, due to being filed late, Correa did not properly explain the reasons for denial or advise him of options going forward. She also failed to respond to inquiries from Argueta’s new attorney seeking information about the case.

As a result of these violations of Rules 1.1, 1.3, and 1.4, Correa agreed to a six-month suspension from practicing law, effective September 27, 2024. She is required to complete three hours of continuing legal education in law office management by December 31, 2024, as outlined in the additional terms. If Correa meets all terms, the matter will close, but failure to comply could result in a longer, one-year suspension.

The Disposition states:

“It is ORDERED that the Board accepts the Agreed Disposition, and the Respondent shall receive a six-month suspension with terms, as set forth in the Agreed Disposition.”

According to avvo.com, Ms. Correa is an immigration attorney in Woodbridge, Virginia. She attended the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, graduating in 2003. She acquired her law license in Virginia in the same year.
