On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia issued an order reprimanding lawyer James C. Griesacker. This order comes after disciplinary proceedings were initiated against Mr. Griesacker by the Lawyer Disciplinary Board earlier this year.

The case is entitled “Lawyer Disciplinary Board vs. James C. Griesacker” with case no. 22-828.

On May 31, 2023, the Hearing Panel Subcommittee of the Lawyer Disciplinary Board filed its written recommended disposition in Mr. Griesacker’s disciplinary case. The Subcommittee recommended that Mr. Griesacker receive a public reprimand, complete an additional 12 hours of continuing legal education in ethics, undergo a comprehensive evaluation by the Judicial and Lawyer Assistance Program comply with any treatment recommendations, and pay the costs of the disciplinary proceedings.

The Office of Lawyer Disciplinary Counsel consented to these recommendations on June 22, 2023. Mr. Griesacker did not file any objection.

After reviewing the recommendations, the Supreme Court of Appeals concurred with the proposed disposition. In its September 12 order, the Court officially reprimanded Mr. Griesacker, ordered him to complete 12 additional hours of CLE in ethics, undergo an evaluation by the Judicial and Lawyer Assistance Program comply with recommendations, and pay the costs of the disciplinary proceedings.
