On November 2, 2022, the Supreme Court of the State of Wyoming ordered the suspension of Laramie Attorney Katherine C. Osten for six months.
The case is styled ‘In the Matter Katherine C. Osten’, with case no. D-22-0006.
The charges cited Rules of Professional Conduct rules 1.3 (diligence), 1.4 (communication with clients), and 8.4(c) (misleading statements).
The Wyoming Rules of Professional Conduct can be found here.
On October 24, 2022, the Board of Professional Responsibility filed before the Court its Report recommending the suspension of Osten for a period of six months for failing to diligently pursue a client’s divorce matter and misleading the client, as well as Osten’s supervising attorney as to the status of the case. Osten also failed to inform the client and her supervising attorney that the case has been dismissed.
The Court, upon its careful review of the stipulation and the supporting affidavit, concluded that an order approving the stipulation is appropriate, and thereby suspended Osten from the practice of law for six months beginning December 8, 2022.
Osten was also ordered to reimburse the costs incurred in the proceeding, as well as pay an administrative fee of $750, and the amount of $800 to the Wyoming State Bar.
Prior to the suspension, Ms. Katherine C. Osten practiced as a staff attorney of Wyoming Children’s Law Center, Inc. in Laramie, Wyoming. She has been licensed in Wyoming.
