On Friday, December 8, 2023, the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board issued a Notice of Automatic Interim Suspension against Eric A. Buikema after being convicted of a felony offense.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Eric A. Buikema,” with case no. 23-101-JC.
According to the notice, Buikema pled guilty to one count of operating while intoxicated, third offense in violation of Michigan state law. The offense occurred in Lapeer County and was designated a felony.
Under state court rules, an attorney’s license is immediately suspended upon any felony conviction. Buikema’s case has been assigned to a hearing panel for further disciplinary proceedings.
This is not the first time Buikema has faced a suspension. The notice indicates he has been continuously suspended from practicing law in Michigan since June 20, 2019.
The current automatic interim suspension of Buikema’s license will remain in effect until the hearing panel issues an order under court rule MCR 9.115(J) establishing the length and terms of further discipline. A decision is pending on how long his license to practice will remain suspended.
According to avvo.com, Mr. Buikema is a defective and dangerous products attorney in Troy, Michigan. He attended the American University, Washington College of Law. He acquired his law license in Michigan in 1998.
