On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division Third Judicial Department granted the application for permission to resign for non-disciplinary reasons of attorney Robert Bruce Cohen.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Robert Bruce Cohen,” with case no. PM-132-23.
Robert Bruce Cohen, an attorney admitted to practice by the Court in 1987, has submitted an application to resign from the New York Bar for non-disciplinary reasons. Cohen’s request, supported by an affidavit sworn on March 30, 2023, seeks permission to resign according to the Rules for Attorney Disciplinary Matters [22 NYCRR] § 1240.22 [a]. The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department (AGC), in response, did not oppose Cohen’s application having determined that Cohen is eligible to resign for non-disciplinary reasons.
After reviewing Cohen’s affidavit, which was sworn to on March 30, 2023, and filed on May 22, 2023, along with the June 22, 2023, response from the Chief Attorney for AGC, it has been established that Cohen is eligible to resign for non-disciplinary reasons. Consequently, his application for resignation is approved, and his resignation is accepted.
Furthermore, the court noted that the petitioner’s name will be struck from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law of the State of New York, effective immediately, unless otherwise ordered by the court. As per the court’s decision, Cohen is also prohibited from practicing law in any capacity in the state, appearing as an attorney before any legal authority, providing legal opinions or advice, or holding herself out as an attorney and counselor-at-law in New York. Cohen is also required to surrender any attorney secure pass issued to her within 30 days of the said decision.
The Disposition states:
“ORDERED that Robert Bruce Cohen’s application for permission to resign is granted and his nondisciplinary resignation is accepted.”
