On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the Supreme Court of Georgia removed Attorney Je’Nita Lane from the list of individuals authorized to practice law in the state. This action follows Lane’s voluntary surrender of her law license, which the court accepted. Lane’s surrender is considered the equivalent of disbarment.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Je’Nita Lane,” with case no. S26Y0129.
Lane admitted to violating multiple Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct in two separate client matters. These violations, outlined in Bar Rule 4-102(d), include Rules 1.3, 1.15(I)(a), 1.15(I)(c), 1.15(II)(a), 1.15(II)(b), and 1.15(III)(a). The maximum penalty for violating each of these rules is disbarment.
In State Disciplinary Board Docket No. 8025, Lane acknowledged representing a husband and wife in a medical malpractice case. After the clients terminated their relationship with her, Lane still held $199,045.41 in her IOLTA account from a previous premises liability settlement, intended to cover the clients’ Medicaid lien. However, she withdrew funds from the account before satisfying the lien, which remains unpaid, and the IOLTA account lacks sufficient funds to cover it. This led to her admission of violating Rules 1.3, 1.15(I)(c), and 1.15(II)(b).
Regarding SDBD No. 8026, Lane admitted that her IOLTA account was overdrawn by $65,488.95 in October 2023 after she used the funds for personal and business expenses. Although she later replenished the account with personal funds, she also deposited settlement checks into her firm’s operating account instead of her IOLTA account while it was overdrawn. This conduct resulted in her admission of violating Rules 1.15(I)(a),(c), 1.15(II)(a)–(b), and 1.15(III)(a).
The State Bar recommended accepting Lane’s voluntary surrender of her license, a recommendation the Supreme Court followed. Lane is now subject to the duties outlined in Bar Rule 4-129(b).
The Disposition states:
“Accordingly, we order that Lane be removed from the rolls of persons authorized to practice law in the State of Georgia. Lane is reminded of her duties pursuant to Bar Rule 4-129(b).”
According to Avvo.com, Ms Lane was a bankruptcy and debt attorney in Albany, Georgia. She acquired her law license in Georgia in 2011.
