On Thursday, May 9, 2024, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals issued an order indefinitely suspending attorney Nema Sayadian from practicing law. This order came after Sayadian had previously been indefinitely suspended from practicing law in Maryland by consent in December 2023.
The case is entitled “In the Matter Re Nema Sayadian.”
The D.C. court’s order referenced the Maryland suspension order, which found Sayadian in violation of several of Maryland’s professional conduct rules. As part of the consent to indefinite suspension in Maryland, Sayadian agreed to the possibility of future reinstatement contingent on submitting a report from a mental health or substance abuse professional approved by bar counsel. The report must attest that Sayadian has abstained from alcohol and opioids other than prescribed medication and undergone monthly random drug testing for 12 consecutive months.
In response to the Maryland suspension, the D.C. Court of Appeals initially issued an interim suspension of Sayadian’s license in March 2024 pending further review. In its May 9 order, the D.C. Court indefinitely suspended Sayadian’s law license in the District on a reciprocal basis. The order also requires Sayadian to show compliance with the conditions imposed in Maryland and demonstrate that he has addressed his mental health and substance abuse issues before gaining reinstatement after five years.
The Disposition states:
“ORDERED that Nema Sayadian is hereby indefinitely suspended from the practice of law in the District of Columbia With a fitness requirement, including showing compliance with all conditions imposed by the state of Maryland and demonstrating that he has addressed his mental health and substance abuse issues.”
According to avvo.com, Ms. Sayadian is a contracts & agreements attorney in Bethesda, Maryland. She attended the American University, Washington College of Law, graduating in 2008. She acquired his law license in the District of Columbia in 2009.
