On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Supreme Court of Hawaii issued an order granting the immediate restraint of Attorney Paul J. Sulla, Jr., from practicing law. This decision follows a petition filed by the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) in light of Sulla’s conviction in the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii.
The case is entitled “Office of Disciplinary Counsel v. Paul J. Sulla, Jr.,” with case no. SCAD-25-0000499.
Sulla was found guilty of several serious charges, including one count of conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud and nine counts of honest services wire fraud, as well as one count of money laundering.
As a result of these felonies, which involve dishonesty and false statements, the court has mandated that Sulla be immediately restrained from practicing law pending the outcome of further disciplinary proceedings. The order specifies that this immediate restraint will be classified as a suspension under the relevant rules of the Supreme Court of Hawaii.
Sulla has been given twenty days to fulfill the obligations outlined by the court, including filing the required affidavit. The matter has now been referred to the Disciplinary Board of the Hawaii Supreme Court for formal disciplinary action.
According to Avvo.com, Mr. Sulla Jr. is a general practice attorney in Hilo, Hawaii. He attended the Boston University School of Law, graduating in 1972. He acquired his law license in Hawaii in 1990.
