On Thursday, June 15, 2023, the New York Supreme Court Appellate Division Third Judicial Department granted the petition for reinstatement filed by Rocky Mount attorney Phillip Charles Essig.
The case is styled ‘In the Matter of Attorneys in Violation of Judiciary Law § 468-a,’ case #PM-126-23.
According to the Decision and Order on Motion, Essig was suspended from practice by a May 2019 order of the Court for violation of the Judiciary Law § 468-a, arising from his failure to comply with attorney registration.
Essig filed a notice of motion and affirmation with exhibits in support of his application for reinstatement, to which the Attorney Grievance Committee made no objection.
Accordingly, the Court, having found that Essig has complied with the order of suspension and the rules of court; that he has the requisite character and fitness to practice law, and that his reinstatement to the practice of law would be in the public interest, ruled in favor of Essig.
The order reads:
“ORDERED that respondent’s motion for reinstatement is granted; and it is further
ORDERED that respondent is reinstated as an attorney and counselor-at-law in the State of New York. effective immediately.”
