On Monday, August 26, 2024, the Idaho Supreme Court accepted the resignation of attorney Richard L. Hammond in lieu of disciplinary proceedings.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Richard L. Hammond.”

Hammond faced felony charges in November 2023 for possessing and distributing sexually exploitative material involving children. He self-reported the criminal charges to the Idaho State Bar counsel. Hammond admitted that possessing such material violated professional conduct rules.

In accepting his resignation, the Supreme Court ruled that Hammond could not apply for readmission to the Idaho bar for five years. If he chooses to reapply after that time, he must meet all bar admission requirements and overcome a presumption of being unfit to practice law. By resigning, Hammond’s name was removed from the Idaho Supreme Bar roster, and his right to practice law in the state courts was terminated.

According to avvo.com, Mr, Hammond acquired his law license in Idaho in 2005.
