On Friday, March 8, 2024, the Board of Immigration Appeals granted the petition to immediately suspend attorney Robert Scott Huff from practicing before immigration courts and the Department of Homeland Security. This comes after Mr. Huff resigned from the Washington State Bar Association on February 8, 2024, in lieu of discipline.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Robert Scott Huff.”

According to documents filed with the Washington Disciplinary Board, in April 2022, Mr. Huff was retained to represent a client in a dissolution matter. He received $7,500 in legal fees from the proceeds of the home sale. However, he deposited the remaining settlement funds into his client’s trust account. It is alleged that between August and December 2022, Mr. Huff misappropriated at least $8,000 from the client funds in the trust account by transferring money to his business and personal accounts without authorization.

As part of his resignation, Mr. Huff admitted to the alleged misconduct of misappropriating client funds and misrepresenting the account balance to the client. He agreed to pay $1,500 in expenses, $8,000 in restitution to the affected client, and $2,900 to another former client. His resignation from the Washington Bar is permanent.

Following Huff’s resignation, the Board of Immigration Appeals immediately suspended Mr. Huff from practice before immigration courts and DHS pending the result of disciplinary proceedings. He must notify any affected immigration clients and provide records of compliance with the order.

The Disposition states:

“The petition is granted, and the respondent is hereby suspended from the practice of law before the Board of Immigration Appeals, the Immigration Courts, and DHS, pending final disposition of this proceeding.”

According to avvo.com, Mr. Huff was a criminal defense attorney in Bellevue, Washington. He acquired his law license in Washington in 1991.
