On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the Supreme Court of New Jersey suspended attorney Todd Andrew Goodman for three years, retroactive to January 19, 2024. This decision followed Goodman’s guilty plea and conviction in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where he faced charges related to the illegal dispensing of controlled substances.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Todd Andrew Goodman,” with case no. 089835.
The Disciplinary Review Board had previously recommended this suspension as part of its final discipline proceedings under Rule 1:20-13(c)(2). Goodman has been under a temporary suspension since January 19, 2024. His conviction stems from activities deemed to violate the Rules of Professional Conduct, specifically RPC 8.4(b), which addresses criminal acts that adversely impact a lawyer’s honesty and trustworthiness.
The charges against Goodman involved his role in dispensing oxycodone based on altered prescriptions, raising serious concerns regarding his professional conduct as a licensed pharmacist and attorney. During earlier proceedings, it was revealed that Goodman knowingly delivered a substantial quantity of the drug to an individual, despite being aware that the prescription was forged. This transaction took place on May 26, 2018, for 240 tablets of oxycodone, for which Goodman received a cash payment.
Following his guilty plea, Goodman was sentenced to four months in prison, accompanied by a year of supervised release. In addition to the prison term, he was ordered to pay fines and assessments totaling $1,025. The court highlighted the severity of Goodman’s actions, noting his responsibility as a pharmacist to ensure the legitimacy of prescriptions before dispensing controlled substances.
As part of the court’s ruling, the entire disciplinary record will be a permanent part of Goodman’s file as an attorney in New Jersey. Furthermore, he is required to reimburse the Disciplinary Oversight Committee for administrative costs and expenses incurred during the proceedings.
The Disposition states:
“It is ORDERED that Todd Andrew Goodman is suspended from the practice of law for a period of three years, retroactive to January 19, 2024, and until further order of the Court.”
