On Tuesday, February 13, 2024, the Supreme Court of Ohio accepted the resignation of attorney Walter Charles Buyok with disciplinary action pending.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Walter Charles Boyuk,” with case no. 2024-0036.
Buyok had submitted his application for retirement or resignation pursuant to Gov.Bar R. VI(11). According to the Court order, Buyok was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1968 and most recently practiced in St. Clairsville. The Court accepted Buyok’s resignation as an attorney and counselor at law and ordered that all of his rights and privileges to practice law in Ohio be withdrawn. Buyok is forbidden to act or present himself as a legally authorized attorney in Ohio courts or to render any legal services going forward.
The Court’s acceptance of Buyok’s resignation is related to his criminal conviction for involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence. In 2020, Buyok fatally shot his wife at Griggs Reservoir Park in Hilliard and staged the scene to look like a robbery. He was sentenced to a minimum of 16 years in prison for the crimes.
Last March 22, 2023, the Supreme Court of Ohio ordered Buyok’s interim suspension from practicing law based on his felony conviction. With his resignation accepted on February 13, 2024, Buyok must complete various requirements to close out any pending client matters and turn over client documents before his resignation is fully effective.
The Disposition states:
“On consideration thereof, it is ordered by the court that pursuant to Gov.Bar R. VI(I I)(C), the resignation as an attorney and counselor at law is accepted as a resignation with disciplinary action pending.”
According to avvo.com, Mr. Boyuk was a criminal defense attorney in Saint Clairsville, Ohio. He acquired his law license in Ohio in 1968.
