On Friday, March 22, 2024, the Supreme Court of Tennessee suspended Attorney Wesley Shelman Spears from the practice of law for two years retroactive to October 25, 2023.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Wesley Shelman Spears.”

Spears had previously received a two-year suspension from the Connecticut Superior Court on September 25, 2023. In response, the Tennessee Supreme Court issued a notice on February 13, 2024, directing Spears to show cause as to why reciprocal discipline should not be imposed in Tennessee. However, Spears did not respond to the court’s directive.

The Tennessee high court formally suspended Spears on March 22, 2024, making him ineligible to practice law in the state for the next two years. Spears must comply with Tennessee rules regarding suspended attorneys, including the obligations and responsibilities of suspended attorneys and the procedure for reinstatement.

According to avvo.com, Mr. Spears is a criminal defense attorney in Hartford, Connecticut. He acquired his law license in Tennessee in 1979.
