On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Supreme Court of Florida suspended attorney Zachary David Grimland from practicing law, following a notice from The Florida Bar regarding his conviction on criminal charges.

The case is entitled “The Florida Bar v. Zachary David Grimland,” with case no. SC2025-0894.

The suspension, effective 30 days from the date of the order, allows Grimland time to wind down his practice and protect the interests of his current clients. If Grimland confirms he is no longer practicing, the court may make the suspension effective immediately. He is prohibited from taking on new clients until reinstated and must comply with rules governing suspended attorneys, including notifying clients and relevant parties of his suspension.

Grimland was charged by the State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit on March 25, 2024, with one count of extortion, a second-degree felony, and one count of stalking, a first-degree misdemeanor. An amended information filed on May 6, 2024, added a second stalking charge.

Following a jury trial, Grimland was convicted on June 10, 2025, of one count of extortion and one count of stalking. His bond was revoked, and he was taken into custody pending sentencing.

The Florida Bar’s notice to the Supreme Court highlighted Grimland’s failure to report the felony charge within 10 days, as required by bar rules. The Bar requested the court find Grimland in violation of rules related to criminal misconduct, failure to notify the Bar of felony charges, and engaging in acts reflecting adversely on his honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer.

The court referred the case to the Chief Judge of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit for the appointment of a referee to conduct a hearing on sanctions. Grimland must provide an affidavit within 30 days, listing all individuals and entities notified of his suspension, as required by The Florida Bar. The case remains pending, with the suspension’s finality subject to any motions for rehearing.

According to Avvo.com, Mr. Grimland is a business attorney in Tampa, Florida. He attended Stetson University College of Law, graduating in 2011. He acquired his law license in Florida in the same year.
