On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, the Board of Immigration Appeals issued an order suspending attorney Luiz Claudio Fernandes Jr. from practicing law before immigration courts and the Department of Homeland Security.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Luiz Claudio Fernandes, Jr.”

According to the order, Fernandes had been enrolled as an inactive attorney by the State Bar Court of California effective May 12, 2024. On August 19, 2024, the Disciplinary Counsel for the Executive Office for Immigration Review and DHS jointly petitioned for his suspension.

The BIA granted the petition in a brief order. Fernandes is now prohibited from practicing before immigration courts and DHS until the completion of the disciplinary proceedings against him. He must also inform any clients with pending immigration cases of his suspension and maintain records to prove his compliance.
