On Sunday, January 12, 2025, the Board of Immigration Appeals suspended Attorney Vincent Mark Amberly from practicing law before the Board, Immigration Courts, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This action follows the revocation of his law license by the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board, which took effect on December 13, 2024.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Vincent Mark Amberly.”

The suspension was prompted by a joint petition submitted on December 17, 2024, by the Disciplinary Counsel for the Executive Office for Immigration Review and the Disciplinary Counsel for DHS. The petition cited regulations that allow for immediate suspension under specific circumstances, including the revocation of a state law license.

By the Board’s order, Amberly is required to promptly inform his clients about his suspension, especially those with pending cases before the Board, Immigration Courts, or DHS. Additionally, he must maintain records that demonstrate compliance with this directive.

The Board of Immigration Appeals emphasized that the suspension is provisional and will remain in effect until the final disposition of the proceedings against Amberly. There is a provision allowing for the suspension to be lifted if good cause is shown, should it be deemed just and appropriate.

The Disposition states:

“The petition is granted, and the respondent is hereby suspended from the practice of law before the Board of Immigration Appeals, the Immigration Courts, and DHS, pending final disposition of this proceeding. 8 C.F.R. ss 1003.103(a)(4).”

According to avvo.com, Mr. Amberly is an antitrust and trade law attorney in Leesburg, Virginia. He acquired his law license in Virginia in 2002.
