On Wednesday, November 23, 2022, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals ordered the indefinite suspension of Gaithersburg attorney George H. Spangler in consideration of the order of suspension from the state of Maryland.
The case, titled In Re George H. Spangler was brought by the Disciplinary Counsel. Case #DDN 2021-D094.
Spangler was ordered indefinitely suspended from the practice of law by consent, by the Court of Appeals of Maryland on May 7, 2021. For this reason, on September 21, 2022, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals ordered the suspension of Spangler pending final disposition of the matter and directed him to show cause why reciprocal discipline should not be imposed on him.
Based on the foregoing facts, the Disciplinary Counsel’s request of imposing a functionally identical discipline, and Spangler’s failure to respond, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals ruled against Spangler.
The Order reads:
“ORDERED that George H. Spangler is hereby indefinitely suspended from the practice of law in the District of Columbia subject to a fitness requirement with reinstatement conditioned on either his reinstatement to practice law by the State of Maryland or five years, whichever occurs first.”
Prior to the suspension, Mr. Spangler practiced in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He has been licensed in the District of Columbia, license #390305, as well as in Maryland.
