On Friday, September 19, 2025, the Supreme Court of Illinois ordered the suspension of attorney Drew Michael Harwick from the practice of law for 60 days and until further order of the court. This decision follows a recommendation from the Hearing Board of the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC).

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Drew Michael Harwick,” with case no. M.R.032669.

The ARDC’s investigation stemmed from a complaint filed on October 28, 2024, which alleged that Harwick revealed confidential information relating to a client’s representation without the client’s informed consent. Specifically, the complaint stated that Harwick disclosed details of his client’s criminal case and the client’s identity in internet posts.

In December 2021, Harwick entered into a deferral agreement with the ARDC, acknowledging the misconduct and agreeing to certain conditions. These conditions included continuing mental health treatment, adhering to the recommendations of his mental health professionals, and providing quarterly reports from those professionals to the Commission.

However, beginning in December 2022, Harwick ceased providing the required quarterly reports. Throughout 2023, ARDC employees contacted Harwick or his counsel on at least eight occasions regarding his failure to comply with the terms of the Rule 108 agreement. Despite these repeated attempts, Harwick did not resume submitting the necessary reports.

While Harwick had no prior disciplinary record, the Hearing Board noted as an aggravating factor his complete lack of participation in the disciplinary proceedings after agreeing to accept service of the complaint via email. The board expressed particular concern regarding Harwick’s mental health, noting the absence of evidence demonstrating ongoing treatment, which raised doubts about his current fitness to practice law.

The Administrator of the ARDC requested the suspension, arguing it was necessary to protect the public, the legal profession, and Harwick himself. The Hearing Board agreed, recommending that the suspension continue until Harwick can demonstrate his fitness to practice law in a reinstatement proceeding. Harwick was served the complaint via email on November 11, 2024, and the allegations were deemed admitted on February 6, 2025, due to his failure to respond.

The Disposition states:

“Motion by the Administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission to approve and confirm the report and recommendation of the Hearing Board. Allowed. Respondent Drew Michael Harwick is suspended from the practice of law for sixty (60) days and until further order of the Court.”

According to Avvo.com, Mr. Harwick is a DUI and DWI attorney in Schaumburg, Illinois. He attended the John Marshall Law School, Chicago, graduating in 1980. He acquired his law license in Illinois in the same year.
