On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Indiana Supreme Court reinstated attorney Jamise Y. Perkins to the practice of law after a brief suspension.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Jamise Y. Perkins,” with case no. 23S-DI-17.
On July 9, 2024, Perkins was suspended for failing to pay costs assessed in a disciplinary action by the October 1st deadline as required by Rule 23 of the Indiana Rules for Admission to the Bar and Discipline. Costs were owed from a prior disciplinary case, though details of the original offense were not disclosed.
Without providing any response initially, Perkins was suspended by the Court following Rule 2(h) which mandates suspension for failure to satisfy costs owed in disciplinary proceedings. However, Perkins remedied the issue. She filed a petition for reinstatement promptly reporting full payment of both the outstanding costs and the $200 fee required under relevant rules to process a reinstatement application.
Satisfied that all monetary responsibilities had been settled, the Indiana Supreme Court reinstated Perkins’ law license. Going forward, she will need to remain in good standing by complying fully with all professional and financial obligations to prevent any future interruptions to her legal practice.
The Disposition states:
“Being duly advised, the Court GRANTS this petition and REINSTATES Respondent to the practice of law in Indiana effective immediately.”
According to avvo.com, Ms. Perkins is an attorney in Crown Point, Indiana. She acquired her law license in Indiana in 2005.
