On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County reinstated attorney Kamah Gueh-Thoronka to practice law in the state. The case is entitled “In the Matter of Kamah Gueh-Thoronka,” with case no. BD-2021-044.
In an order dated February 21, 2023, it was stated that the matter came before the court based on a petition for reciprocal discipline against the respondent.
After the parties’ filed a waiver of hearing and assent to the entry of the order, the court, on September 21, 2021, issued an order suspending the same from the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for an indefinite period retroactively to May 20, 2021. Upon consideration thereof, the respondent’s motion for reinstatement was initially denied without prejudice.
Dissatisfied with the denial of her reinstatement, on April 20, 2023, the respondent tried once again to file a petition wishing for his reinstatement to the bar. The Bar Counsel responded to the motion, expressing that it doesn’t oppose the lawyer’s request for reinstatement to practice law in Massachusetts. It was noted that the lawyer had previously agreed to an indefinite suspension order, but Bar Counsel pointed out that the lawyer may not have fully comprehended the implications of such an order in Massachusetts. If the lawyer had contested the reciprocal discipline petition, it is likely that he would have obtained a term suspension for less than one year. At present, the petitioner has been under suspension in Massachusetts for around 20 months, starting from September 20, 2021. However, it is noteworthy that the lawyer has already been reinstated in Maryland since November 2022.
In lieu of this, the court granted the motion for reinstatement to the practice of law filed by the respondent.
The Disposition states:
“In consideration thereof, it is ORDERED and ADJUDGED that the supplemental motion for reinstatement to the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts be, and hereby is, allowed. Kamah Gueh-Thoronka is hereby reinstated to the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.”
Mr. Gueh-Thoronka practices in Lowell, Massachusetts. He is licensed in Maryland and Massachusetts. His info can be found on lawyerjustia.com.
