On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board of the Genesee County Hearing Panel #3 issued a 180-day suspension of Thomas J. Wilson’s law license. Wilson failed to respond to allegations of misconduct filed in a two-count complaint by the Grievance Administrator regarding his representation of two clients.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Thomas J. Wilson,” with case no. 23-57-GA.
The charges cited Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1(c), 1.2(a), 1.3, 1.4(a)(b), 1.16(d), 3.2, 8.1(a)(2), 8.4(a), 8.4(c), and Michigan Court Rules 9.104(1)(2)(3)(4), 9.104(7), 9.113(A), 9.113(B)(2).
Due to Wilson’s lack of response, the hearing panel ruled by default that he neglected legal matters, failed to adequately communicate with clients or seek the objectives of one client. It was also determined that Wilson did not fulfill his obligations upon concluding representation and knowingly did not cooperate with the disciplinary authority’s lawful request for information regarding the complaints.
The panel found Wilson violated numerous Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct pertaining to diligence, communication, termination of representation, honesty, conduct prejudicing the justice system, and noncooperation with disciplinary investigations. As a result, the hearing panel suspended Wilson’s license for the maximum 180-day period.
Additionally, the panel ordered Wilson to pay $1,270 in restitution to his former clients. He was also assessed $1,730.27 to cover the costs of the disciplinary proceedings. With the suspension effective immediately, Wilson is barred from practicing law in Michigan until the conclusion of his six-month suspension.
According to avvo.com, Mr. Wilson is a consumer protection attorney in Lexington, Michigan. He acquired his law license in Michigan in 1981.
