On Friday, August 9, 2024, WLBT3 reported that a Jackson attorney had been arrested and charged with bringing contraband into the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond, Mississippi.
According to Sheriff Tyree Jones, lawyer Daniel Dale was detained after surveillance video showed him giving a cell phone and envelope to a detainee during a previous visit. A search of the detainee found a phone and other prohibited items.
Jones said Dale returned to the facility later with a silver briefcase. Security screening detected possible contraband inside and video footage allegedly showed Dale attempting to pass items to another inmate. Officials searched the briefcase and found multiple cell phones, suspected marijuana, tobacco products, chargers, and a scale.
The sheriff noted Dale had visited the detention center at least 10 times since June. An ongoing investigation is looking into those past visitations as well. Jones was unsure if Dale legally represented the detainees he interacted with but mentioned the attorney had trusted access due to his profession. Dale was charged with two counts of conspiracy and three counts of introducing contraband.
