On Friday, July 18, 2025, the New Jersey Disciplinary Review Board issued a letter of admonition to attorney Christopher C. Roberts for violations of professional conduct rules. The decision followed a review of a motion for discipline by consent filed by the District VB Ethics Committee, citing Roberts’s lack of diligence and failure to communicate with a client.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Christopher C. Roberts,” with case no. DRB 25-126.
In August 2019, Vincent Green hired Roberts to file a lawsuit against Bellwether Behavioral Health, a residential care facility, after Green’s son sustained injuries there in October 2018. Roberts filed a complaint in October 2019, unaware that a court had appointed a receiver to manage Bellwether’s operations, leading to the dismissal of all pending cases against the facility in June 2019.
After learning of the dismissal, Roberts informed Green that suing Bellwether was not possible and later struggled to identify an appropriate defendant due to the company’s reported dissolution.
From January 2022 to May 2024, Roberts failed to return Green’s calls or meet with him, despite Green’s attempts to discuss the case. In March 2024, Green filed an ethics grievance. Roberts then moved to reinstate the case in April 2024, but the court denied the motion in May.
Roberts admitted to violating Rule of Professional Conduct 1.3 for lack of diligence and Rule 1.4 for inadequate client communication.
The Board noted Roberts’ 30-year discipline-free record, his remedial efforts, and Green’s willingness to continue the representation as mitigating factors. No aggravating factors were found.
According to Avvo.com, Mr. Roberts is an employment and labor attorney in East Orange, New Jersey. He acquired his law license in New Jersey in 1995.
