On Monday, May 13, 2024, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division Third Judicial Department accepted Jin Hee Ahn’s application for nondisciplinary resignation from the New York State Bar.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Jin Hee Ahn,” with case no. PM-89-24.

Ahn, who is licensed in New York but works in Falls Church, Virginia, had submitted an affidavit on March 25, 2024, seeking to resign from the New York Bar for nondisciplinary reasons. The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department, which represents the court on attorney disciplinary matters, advised on April 29th that it did not oppose Ahn’s application to resign.

In her affidavit, Ahn stated that she no longer works in New York and wished to resign her license to practice law in the state. Under the Rules for Attorney Disciplinary Matters, attorneys may resign from the bar for nondisciplinary reasons, such as retiring from the practice of law or relocating to another state where they are licensed.

In a memorandum decision, the Appellate Court accepted Ahn’s resignation application. The court’s order immediately strikes Ahn’s name from the roll of New York attorneys and prohibits her from practicing law or representing herself as an attorney in New York. Ahn must also surrender any Attorney Secure Passes issued by the New York Office of Court Administration within 30 days.

Ms. Ahn obtained her law license in New York in 2018.
