On Thursday, January 2, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department granted the resignation of attorney Kathrine Motley Hunt. This decision followed an application submitted by Hunt, who sought to leave the New York Bar for non-disciplinary reasons. The Court noted that the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department did not oppose her request.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Kathrine Motley Hunt,” with case no. PM-01-25.
In her affidavit, sworn on November 15, 2024, and filed with the Court on November 20, 2024, she outlined her reasons for resigning. The application was reviewed alongside correspondence dated December 17, 2024, from the Deputy Chief Attorney of the Attorney Grievance Committee. After considering the relevant documents, the Court determined that Hunt was eligible to resign without any disciplinary issues.
The Court’s order accepted Hunt’s resignation and officially removed her name from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in the State of New York, effective immediately. The ruling also included a directive for Hunt to cease practicing law in New York in any capacity. This prohibition extends to her appearing before any legal authority or offering legal opinions or advice.
In addition, the Court mandated that Hunt return any Attorney Secure Pass issued to her to the Office of Court Administration within 30 days of the decision.
The Disposition states:
“ORDERED that Kathrine Motley Hunt’s application for permission to resign is granted and her nondisciplinary resignation is accepted.”
According to avvo.com, Ms. Hunt is a lawyer in Trenton, New Jersey. She attended the Western New England College School of Law. She acquired her law license in New York in 1991.
