On Thursday, December 5, 2024, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department accepted the resignation of attorney Colleen Frances Manwell, who had sought to leave the New York bar for nondisciplinary reasons.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Colleen Frances Manwell,” with case no. PM-243-24.
The court’s decision came after reviewing Manwell’s affidavit, which she had sworn on October 2, 2024, along with a letter from the Attorney Grievance Committee (AGC) for the Third Judicial Department, which indicated that it did not oppose her resignation request. The court found Manwell eligible to resign under the relevant rules governing attorney disciplinary matters.
In its order, the court formally accepted Manwell’s resignation and directed that her name be removed from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in New York, effective immediately. Additionally, the court mandated that she cease practicing law in any capacity within the state, whether as a principal or in any subordinate role. Furthermore, Manwell is prohibited from appearing as an attorney before any court or public authority, providing legal opinions or advice, or representing herself as a practicing attorney in New York.
The court has also instructed Manwell to return any Attorney Secure Pass she holds to the Office of Court Administration within 30 days of the decision.
According to avvo.com, Ms. Manwell acquired her law license in New York in 2013.
