On Friday, February 10, 2023, the Supreme Court of the State of Oklahoma suspended the Show Cause Order imposing deadlines on the Oklahoma Bar Association and attorney Arya Affedit Adibi. This is upon its receipt of the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Application for an Order Approving the Resignation of the respondent, Arya Affedit Adilbi, pending disciplinary proceedings.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Arya Affeldt Adibi” with case no. 7400.

In an Information filed on February 20, 2022, before the District Court in and for Tulsa County in the State of Oklahoma, the respondent was charged with the following crimes: a) Rape, first degree; b) rape by instrumentation-first degree; c) Forcible Sodomy; d) Assault and Battery through means likely to produce death; e) Domestic Assault & Battery by strangulation; f) Child Neglect; g) Kidnapping; and h) Threatening an Act of violence.

The filing states:

“On 2/19/20, officers were dispatched to St. Francis Hospital, in reference to a Domestic Violence report. Upon arrival, they made contact with the female victim. The victim had a severe black/blue left eye which was swollen shut and several red marks on her body. She stated that she felt extremely nauseous and was having difficulty seeing. She advised that her husband, Arya Adibi, physically and sexually assaulted her throughout the night.. The victim stated that her husband got upset with her on the evening of 2/18/20. He proceeded to hit her several times, drag her by her hair, and place his hands around her neck. The victim stated that he choked her multiple times, which made it very difficult for her to breathe. At one point, she lost consciousness. The victim was held against her will and he refused to let her leave.”

The filing continues:

“The victim stated that over the course of approximately 8 hours, the suspect sexually assaulted her multiple times. She stated that he digitally penetrated her vagina and anus with his fingers. She stated that he forced her head on top of his penis and sodomized her. She stated that he also vaginally penetrated her with his penis multiple times. In addition to this, Arya peed on her at one point. The victim stated that Arya threatened to shoot her and had access to multiple guns inside of the residence. The victim stated Arya told her that she wouldn’t be allowed to leave the house and had plans to hide her for two weeks. Arya took her phone away from the victim, so she would not be able to contact 911 or the police. The victim stated that the physical and sexual assaults took place over the course of several hours. The suspect left in the morning to bring their children to school. The victim had a hidden phone and was able to contact a family member to transport her to the hospital.”

On February 8, 2023, the OBA filed an Application for an Order approving the resignation of the Respondent before the Supreme Court of Oklahoma. It’s on the same date that the Court entered Rule 7, Rules Governing Disciplinary Proceeding (RGDP). Show Cause Order imposing deadlines on Respondent and the OBA. Because of the receipt of the court of the said Order approving the resignation of the respondent, the Court suspended the February 8, 2023 Order imposing deadlines on OBA and the respondent.
