On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, the Supreme Court of Tennessee ruled on the petition to transfer the Honorable Richard Hovey Dinkins to disability inactive status, case #M2022-01310-SC-BAR-BP.

The Court, upon due consideration of documentation from Mr. Dinkins and his medical provider, concluding Richard Hovey Dinkins is currently unable to practice law due to his disability, ordered:

“1. The law license of the Honorable Richard Hovey Dinkins shall be transferred to disability inactive status for an indefinite period of time and until further order of the Supreme Court.

2. Mr.Dinkins shall comply with Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 9 in all respects and particularly as provided in Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 9, § 28, regarding the responsibilities of attorneys transferred to disability inactive status.

3. Mr. Dinkins shall be allowed to petition for reinstatement to active status pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct.R. 9, § 27.7.

4. The Board shall publish notice of this transfer pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct. R.9, §§ 27.5 and 28.11.

5. Pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 9, § 32.4, documents other than this Order relating to Mr. Dinkins’s disability proceeding shall not be public records and shall be kept confidential.”

Accordingly, the Board, in compliance with the Order of the Court, published the notice of transfer to disability inactive status of Richard Hovey Dinkins.

Mr. Dinkins has been a Tennessee Court of Appeals judge. He received his Juris Doctor from Vanderbilt University School of Law, graduating in 1977. Dinkins practiced in Nashville, Tennessee. He has been licensed in Tennessee. His info can be found here.
