On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, the Supreme Court of Washington disbarred attorney John A. Cochran. This decision came after Cochran was suspended from practicing law by the Supreme Court of Oregon on August 8, 2024, due to serious misconduct. The Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) notified the court of the Oregon ruling and sought to impose the same disciplinary measures in Washington.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of John A. Cochran,” with case no. 202222-7.

Cochran was allowed to contest the imposition of identical discipline but failed to respond. On February 4, 2025, WSBA expressed intentions to pursue disbarment based on the findings from the Oregon case.

A motion for disbarment was filed on February 10, 2025, to which Cochran again did not respond.

The court reviewed the case and, by majority decision, ordered Cochran’s disbarment effective seven days from the ruling.

According to avvo.com, Mr. Cochran is a real estate attorney in Portland, Oregon. He acquired his law license in Washington in 2007.
