On Monday, October 6, 2025, the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia granted Attorney Geoffrey Melada’s petition for voluntary resignation from the West Virginia State Bar. Melada’s request to resign was initially submitted on August 22, 2025, in accordance with Rule 3.26(a) of the Rules of Lawyer Disciplinary Procedure.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Geoffrey Melada,” with case no. 25-547.
The Investigative Panel of the Lawyer Disciplinary Board, led by Chair Letitia Neese Chafin, submitted a report on September 22, 2025, recommending the approval of Melada’s petition. This recommendation followed Rule 3.26(c) of the Rules of Lawyer Disciplinary Procedure.
Following its consideration, the Supreme Court issued an order allowing Melada to voluntarily resign his membership in the West Virginia State Bar. The court further stipulated that Melada must adhere to the client notification requirements outlined in Rule 3.28 of the Rules of Lawyer Disciplinary Procedure, if those requirements are applicable in his situation.
