On Thursday, October 10, 2024, the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department granted attorney Afua Sarpong Akoto’s motion for reinstatement to law practice in the state.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Afua Sarpong Akoto,” with case no. PM-205-24.

Akoto was suspended from practice in September 2022 by order of the same court for violating provisions of the state’s Judiciary Law. She filed a motion for reinstatement, accompanied by an affidavit and supporting exhibits demonstrating her compliance with the suspension order and the attorney discipline rules.

The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department filed a response on September 9, 2024, addressing Akoto’s request.

After reviewing the submissions, the court determined by clear and convincing evidence that Akoto has the requisite character and fitness to practice law again and that reinstating her license would be in the public interest.

The Disposition states:

“It is ORDERED that respondent’s motion for reinstatement is granted; and it is further ORDERED that respondent is reinstated as an attorney and counselor-at-law, effective Immediately.”
