On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Supreme Court of Louisiana reinstated attorney Donald R. Dobbins to practice law in the state. Dobbins had previously been suspended. Following the completion of his suspension period, Dobbins applied for reinstatement.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Donald R. Dobbins,” with case no. 2025-OB-00627.

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) supported Dobbins’ reinstatement, provided he adheres to specific conditions. These include full compliance with a two-year monitoring agreement he signed with the Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program (JLAP) on April 29, 2025. Additionally, JLAP is required to submit quarterly reports to the ODC regarding Dobbins’ adherence to the monitoring contract. The disciplinary board’s adjudicative committee chair also recommended granting the reinstatement.

The Supreme Court accepted the recommendation, allowing Dobbins to resume practicing law, subject to the ODC’s conditions. The court further mandated that JLAP provide regular updates on Dobbins’ compliance with the monitoring agreement. Any violations must be promptly reported to the court by the ODC. All costs associated with the reinstatement proceedings are to be borne by Dobbins.

According to Avvo.com, Mr. Dobbins is a criminal defense attorney in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He acquired his law license in Louisiana in 1991.
