On Monday, October 20, 2025, the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility announced the reinstatement of Attorney John Edward Hutson to the active practice of law, as ordered by the Tennessee Supreme Court on the same day. Hutson had previously been suspended on January 14, 2025, for a period of two years, with six months served as an active suspension and the remaining time on probation.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of John Edward Hutson.”

Hutson submitted a Petition for Reinstatement on October 13, 2025, in accordance with Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9, Section 30.4(c). The Board reviewed the petition, found it satisfactory, and subsequently submitted an Order of Reinstatement to the Court.

The reinstatement is conditional. Hutson is required to contact the Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program (TLAP) and engage a practice monitor for the initial six months of his probationary period. He must meet monthly with the monitor, who will evaluate his caseload, case management practices, timeliness in completing tasks, client communication effectiveness, and accounting procedures. The practice monitor will then submit monthly written reports to Disciplinary Counsel.

According to Avvo.com, Mr. Hutson is an elder law attorney in Sparta, Tennessee. He attended the Nashville School of Law. He acquired his law license in Tennessee in 2016.
