On Thursday, July 17, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Judicial Department granted the reinstatement of attorney Stephen Maxwell Reck to practice law in the state. The decision marks the end of a suspension that had been in place since October 21, 2010.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Stephen Maxwell Reck,” with case no. 2025-03612.
Reck faced suspension due to non-compliance with Judiciary Law Section 468-a. This law requires attorneys to meet specific registration obligations to maintain their legal practice status in New York. The 2010 court order had barred Reck from practicing as an attorney and counselor-at-law until further notice from the court.
In a recent filing, Reck petitioned the court for reinstatement, demonstrating that he had fulfilled the requirements of Judiciary Law Section 468-a on or about May 29, 2025. The New York Court reviewed the motion. After careful consideration of the submitted documents, the court determined that Reck had met the necessary conditions for reinstatement.
The court’s order, effective immediately, restores Reck’s ability to practice law in New York.
According to the filing, Mr. Reck acquired his law license in New York in 1992.
