On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the District of Columbia Board on Professional Responsibility Hearing Committee Number Four recommended that attorney Alisha E. Gordon receive a public censure and be required to complete six hours of pre-approved continuing legal education courses.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Alisha E. Gordon,” with case no. 24-ND-003.

The case is regarding a petition for negotiated discipline filed against Gordon. The petition alleged that Gordon violated Rules of Professional Conduct related to honesty and integrity during a real estate dispute hearing in Superior Court in May 2023.

Specifically, the petition claimed Gordon misrepresented to the judge that she had notified the opposing party about the hearing when in fact she had not directly contacted them. It was further alleged that Gordon failed to correct the record despite the opposing counsel pointing out the inaccuracy. Gordon acknowledged the facts and misconduct as described in the petition.

During the hearing, the committee reviewed documents including Gordon’s amended affidavit, and heard testimony from Gordon, her counsel, and Disciplinary Counsel for the District of Columbia Bar. Gordon accepted responsibility for her actions and expressed remorse. She also noted in mitigation that she had no prior disciplinary issues and fully cooperated with the investigation.

In determining whether to approve the negotiated discipline, the committee examined whether Gordon entered into it knowingly and voluntarily, whether the admitted facts supported the rule violations, and whether the proposed sanction was justified. Taking also into account Gordon’s cooperation and lack of prior misconduct, the committee found the public censure and CLE requirement to be an appropriate resolution.

The recommendation states:

“For the reasons stated above, it is the recommendation of this Hearing Committee that the negotiated discipline be approved and that the Court issue a public censure and require Respondent to complete six hours of CLE preapproved by Disciplinary Counsel.”

According to lawyer.com, Ms. Gordon attended the Albany Law School, Union University. She acquired her law license in the District of Columbia in 2013.
