On Friday, March 29, 2024, the Kansas Supreme Court issued an order fully discharging attorney Kevin P. Shepherd from probation and closing the disciplinary proceeding against him.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Kevin P. Shepherd,” with case no. 120,875.

Shepherd had his law license suspended for two years back in 2019 stemming from a disciplinary case. In 2021, he petitioned for early reinstatement and the Court granted reinstatement while staying the remainder of the suspension and placing him on probation for three years.

On March 6, 2024, Shepherd filed a motion with the Court to be discharged from probation under Supreme Court Rule 227(g)(1), which covers probation discharge. The Office of the Disciplinary Administrator, which oversees attorney discipline cases, responded to Shepherd’s motion. It confirmed to the Court that Shepherd had complied with all terms of his probation and was eligible to be discharged. The ODA voiced no objection to the Court fully discharging Shepherd.

Acknowledging the ODA’s response, the Kansas Supreme Court granted Shepherd’s motion in its March 29 order. The order discharges Shepherd from probation and closes the underlying disciplinary proceeding against him. The Court directed that the order be published in the Kansas Reports. Any remaining costs associated with the case will be assessed to Shepherd.

According to avvo.com, Mr. Shepherd is a criminal defense attorney in Topeka, Kansas. He attended the Washburn University School of Law. He acquired his law license in Kansas in 2000.
