On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the Louisiana Supreme Court suspended attorney Marc G. Dorsey for six months for client trust account violations. However, the court deferred the suspension in its entirety, placing Dorsey on probation for two years with conditions.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Marc G. Dorsey,” with case no. 2024-B-0567.

According to the court order, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel had investigated allegations that Dorsey mismanaged his client trust account, resulting in commingling and converting client funds. He also failed to register the account with the Louisiana State Bar Association.

Before formal charges were filed, Dorsey and the ODC submitted a joint petition for consent discipline. The Supreme Court accepted the petition and issued its ruling, suspending Dorsey’s law license for six months but deferring the suspension pending completion of a two-year probationary period.

Dorsey must comply with the conditions outlined in the consent discipline petition. Any violations of his probation terms or further misconduct could make the six-month suspension take effect, or more discipline could be imposed.

Additionally, the order stated Dorsey must pay all costs associated with the ODC investigation in accordance with court rules.

According to avvo.com, Mr. Dorsey is an attorney in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended the Loyola University – New Orleans. He acquired his law license in Louisiana in 1987.
