On Thursday, September 19, 2024, a Michigan Hearing Panel suspended the law license of attorney Michael J. Zayed for 180 days.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Michael J. Zayed,” with case no. 24-41-JC; 24-42-GA.
The charges cited Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct 8.4(c), 8.1(a)(2), 9.104(1), and Michigan Court Rules 9.104(2), 9.103(3), 9.104(4), 9.120(A)(1), and 9.104(7).
According to the notice of suspension, Zayed pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alcohol content over .17 grams per 100 milliliters, which is a misdemeanor in Michigan. He also failed to notify the Grievance Administrator of his conviction within the required 14 days and did not respond to a request for investigation regarding the matter.
After proceedings conducted under Michigan Court Rules 9.115 and 9.120, the panel found Zayed’s actions violated the code of professional conduct for attorneys. Due to his conviction, the panel ruled he engaged in criminal behavior under Michigan Professional and Court Rules. Zayed’s failure to disclose his conviction or cooperate with the investigation was deemed conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice.
The panel suspended Zayed’s law license for six months effective September 19, 2024. He was also ordered to pay $1,782.15 in court costs.
According to avvo.com, Mr. Zayed is an attorney in White Lake, Michigan. He acquired his law license in Michigan in 1995.
