On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel for the State of Montana filed a petition with the Montana Supreme Court, requesting a determination regarding the conviction of attorney Garry D. Seaman.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Garry D. Seaman. Seaman,” with case no. 22-133.
According to the petition, Seaman was charged on May 31, 2022, in Lincoln County District Court with deliberate homicide, attempted deliberate homicide, and tampering with evidence related to a May 21, 2022, incident. On August 21, 2023, he pled guilty to the homicide and attempted homicide charges.
On October 5, 2023, Seaman was sentenced to 60 years in prison for each charge, to be served concurrently. The Office of Disciplinary Counsel was notified of the conviction on November 28, 2023.
The Office of Disciplinary Counsel filed a petition on November 29, 2023, requesting the high court to determine if Seaman’s convictions affect his ability to practice law. If so, they are asking for his immediate suspension. The petition also requests that the court direct Disciplinary Counsel to prepare and file a formal complaint against Seaman predicated upon the convictions.
