On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department accepted the resignation of Kyung Jin Kim, granting him permission to resign for nondisciplinary reasons.

The case is entitled “In the Matter of Kyung Jin Kim,” with case number PM-110-24.

Kim was admitted to practice law in New York in 2012 and maintains a business address in Rockville, Maryland. In his affidavit submitted on April 11th, Kim applied to resign from the New York Bar.

The Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department, which oversees attorney conduct, did not oppose Kim’s resignation. In correspondence on May 21st, the Deputy Chief Attorney for the committee said they would not challenge his departure.

To resign from the bar for nondisciplinary reasons, attorneys must meet eligibility rules under the state’s Rules for Attorney Disciplinary Matters. The court’s per curiam opinion stated it had determined Kim was qualified to leave the profession freely, without facing disciplinary charges.

As a result of approving his resignation, the court immediately removed Kim’s name from the roll of lawyers admitted to practice in New York. He is now prohibited from practicing law or providing legal advice in any capacity in the state. Within 30 days, Kim must also return any Attorney Secure Pass issued by the Office of Court Administration.

According to Avvo, Mr. Kim is an attorney in Rockville, Maryland. He attended the Hofstra Law School. He obtained his law license in New York in 2012.
