On Thursday, August 21, 2025, the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Judicial Department referred the case of attorney Lori Vinciguerra to a referee to conduct a hearing regarding her potential reinstatement to the bar. Vinciguerra is seeking to return to her profession after a suspension period of three and a half years.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Lori Vinciguerra,” with case no. 2025-00927.
The suspension was ordered following a court decision rendered on September 29, 2020. As part of her reinstatement motion, filed by her attorney Richard E. Mischel on February 14, 2025, Vinciguerra aims to demonstrate her compliance with the court’s suspension order and the relevant rules governing attorney conduct.
The Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection has expressed no objections to Vinciguerra’s reinstatement. However, the Attorney Grievance Committee filed an affirmation in opposition on July 14, 2025, indicating concerns that will need to be addressed during the upcoming hearing.
The court’s order stipulates that a hearing will be conducted by Hon. John A. Colangelo, who will evaluate whether Vinciguerra has met the necessary criteria for reinstatement. This includes proving that she possesses the required character and fitness to resume legal practice, as well as demonstrating compliance with the conditions of her suspension.
The hearing is mandated to take place within 60 days of the date of the order, after which a report and recommendation will be submitted to the court for final consideration. The outcome of this hearing will determine whether Vinciguerra can return to her legal practice in New York
According to Martindale.com, Ms. Vinciguerra attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook, graduating in 1982. She acquired her law license in New York in 1986.
