On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, the Supreme Court of Georgia disbarred attorney Kathleen Strang due to serious professional misconduct in handling multiple client cases.
The case is entitled “In the Matter of Kathleen Strang,” with case no. S25Y1147.
Strang was charged with misconduct related to four specific client matters. In one case, she represented a client convicted of murder who sought a new trial. Although she entered an appearance on his behalf in January 2019, she failed to communicate adequately with him, resulting in the client’s grievance against her for lack of preparation and response to his inquiries. The court ultimately denied his motion for a new trial in July 2022.
In another case, Strang was appointed to assist a client seeking to withdraw a guilty plea for aggravated assault. The client claimed that Strang did not communicate with him about his desire to withdraw the plea. Although she eventually acknowledged in her responses that she had not obtained the necessary transcripts, the client contested her claims, asserting that the transcripts were available, raising questions about her diligence.
Strang’s representation of a client convicted of enticing a child also raised serious concerns. She neglected to inform the client of crucial court dates and failed to attend multiple hearings. Even after the client expressed his desire for her to pursue specific grounds in his case, she did not respond and continued to request additional time without justification.
In a fourth case, Strang represented a client facing felony charges. After filing a not guilty plea in February 2021, there was little to no activity on the case for over a year. The client, frustrated by the lack of communication, ultimately filed a request for a speedy trial, citing Strang’s absence and failure to pursue the case actively.
Special Master LaRae D. Moore determined that Strang’s actions constituted a willful abandonment of her clients’ cases, leading to potential serious injury and anxiety for the clients involved. The master’s report noted a pattern of misconduct, including her consistent failure to communicate and perform necessary legal work. Although Strang had no prior disciplinary history, the mitigating factor was insufficient to outweigh the numerous aggravating circumstances.
In considering the appropriate sanction, the Special Master referenced the American Bar Association Standards for Imposing Lawyer Sanctions, concluding that disbarment was warranted given the severity of the violations.
The Supreme Court of Georgia concurred with this recommendation, emphasizing that disbarment aligns with prior cases involving similar misconduct.
As a result, Kathleen Strang’s name has been officially removed from the rolls of attorneys authorized to practice law in the state. The court reminded her of her ongoing obligations under Bar Rule 4-219(b), which outlines the responsibilities of disbarred attorneys.
According to Avvo.com, Ms. Strang is an attorney in Albany, Georgia. She attended the University of Georgia School of Law. She acquired her law license in Georgia in 1996.
